Breaking Bad

Breaking Bad/AMC/2008-2013 (Cancer)

Walter White, Sr. (Bryan Cranston), a high school chemistry teacher with advanced Stage III inoperable lung cancer. To provide for his family after his death and pay for his medical treatments, Walter Sr. decides to use his knowledge of chemistry and manufacture Methamphethamine, an illegal drug.

Walter Sr. partners with Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) one of his students at school.  Together, they cook batches of meth while Jess uses his street contacts to find clientele who want to buy the stuff.

Using the alias of ‘Heisenberg’, Walter falls deeper into the rabbit hole of corruption, and soon became a ruthless killer in order to survive the treacherous world of the drug dealer.

Meanwhile, Walter Sr. tells his wife, Skyler (Anna Gunn) about his double life as a meth maker and she promptly asks for a divorce. And Walt’s partner, Jesse has a disagreement and both go their separate ways. This allows Walt to sell his goods to a Gus, a new partner who offers to pay him $3 million dollars for three months service, as well as a state-of-the-art laboratory manned by Gale (David Constabile), a talented lab tech.  Later, Walter replaces Gale with his old partner Jesse and together they plot and kill Gus and blow up his meth lab.

Walter and Jesse then partner with a guy name Mike, whom they later kill, but not before Walter orders Mike to hire Jack Welker, a Neo-Nazi to kill ten of Mike’s informants who could squeal to the DEA. All the while, Walter manages to accumulate $80 million dollars which he keeps in a storage vault over seen by his wife, Skyler.

In the midst of all his shenanigans, Walter feared that his life as a drug dealer had become too dangerous, and so he relocated his family (at his wife’s insistence) to a safer home environment with friends.

Later, DEA agent Hank Schrader (Dean Norris) negotiates with Jesse to give up his partner, which Hank now knows is Walter White Sr., using the alias of Heisenberg. On the run, Walter buries his ill-gotten gains in the To’hajilee desert and hires Jack Welker again to murder Jesse. But things go wrong and the DEA agent Hank captures Walter and Jesse as they meet in the desert. Then Jack Welker arrives and kills Hank and takes most of Walter’s money, but leaves him a mere $11 million as a gesture of good will.

In the end, Walter Sr. quits the meth business and reunites with his wife, Skyler and their children, Walter, Jr. (RJ Mitte) and Holly (Elanor Anne Wenrich).

Soon after, Skyler and Walter Jr. hold Walter Sr. accountable for the death of DEA agent Hank Schrader (Skyler’s brother-in-law) and contact the police. Fleeing to New Hampshire, Walter Sr. holds up in a cabin.

Several months later, Walter Sr. (still struggling with cancer) returns to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a final visit with his family and then procures an automatic machine gun, kills Jack Welker and his gang members, frees his former partner, Jesse who had been forced into slavery to make meth for the gang, then succumbs to a gunshot wound received in the conflagration. Before he died, he managed to funnel $9 million dollars to his wife and kids.

Breaking Bad/AMC/2008-2013  (Cerebral Palsy)

Walter Flynn White, Jr. (RJ Mitte), teenage son of a high school chemistry teacher with inoperable lung cancer. Unbeknownst to his son, Walter Sr. (Bryan Cranston) used his knowledge of chemistry to manufacture meth to earn money to provide for his family after he dies.

Walter Jr. has Cerebral Palsy. His speech is impaired and he needs the help of crutches when he walks.

Although his father, Walter Sr. has gone over to the dark side as a drug dealer, killer and all around bad guy, Walter Jr. still idolizes his dad, even when he had to return the brand new hot rod he received from his father (who later got his son another car).

When Walter Sr. had to undergo expensive lung surgery, the patient and understanding RJ created a website to raise money for his dad’s treatment.

Note: Actor RJ Mitte has Cerebral Palsy in real life, although not as severe as the character he played. For the part, he had to learn to slur his speech and walk with crutches so he would make his role convincing.

RJ Mitte also appeared on episodes of Switched at Birth/ABC Family(Freeform)/2011-2017 as Campbell Bingman, a pre-med student in a wheelchair who volunteers at the free clinic where deaf teenager Daphne Vasquez is serving her community service hours. She becomes his love interest for a time.
