Strange/BBC/2002-2003 (Down’s Syndrome)
Kevin (Timmy Lang) works at a Cathedral in England as Cannon Black’s gardener, a job that enables him to spy on the Canon and find out vital information.
Kevin can sense the presence of demons and assists a defrocked priest John Strange (Richard Coyle) in fighting demonic agents in the region.
Adam Janikowski (William Fichtner), a former stunt man injured while snowboarding off a cliff on the job who now uses a wheelchair to get around. Adam is the love interest of Bonnie Plunkett (Allison Janney), a cynical recovering addict who attends AA meetings.
Bonnie met Adam accidentally when he dialed the wrong number and Bonnie answered the phone. After several phone conversations, Adam and Bonnie agreed to meet for a date, but Adam backed out at the last minute because he was afraid of revealing his disability. He eventually moved in with Bonnie.
Adam is funny, intelligent, independent and enjoys drinking beer and having sex. He left Bonnie when he found employment as a stunt coordinator for a film shooting overseas.
Adam’s character was introduced as a recurring role during season 3 (2015-16) and became a regular character during season 4 (2016-2017).
Adam was criticized by some viewers because his character was not played by a disabled person.
MY GIMPY LIFE/Internet/2012 + 2014 (Wheelchair)
Teal (Teal Sherer), an aspiring disabled actress who tries to navigate Tinsel Town (Hollywood) in a wheelchair.
Teal won Best Female Comedy Performance at the International Academy of Web Television Awards in Las Vegas for her role in MY GIMPLY LIFE!
Teal grew up near Knoxville, Tennessee. She sustained injuries in an automobile accident at the age of 14, on the way to a Labor Day fireworks show. The accident broke her spine, leaving her a paraplegic. Teal recovered at Shepherd Therapy Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
NOTE: Sherer‘s first name “Teal” was given by her father (not because her eyes are so blue) but because of the Teal duck, her dad’s favorite breed of duck to hunt. Teal quipped, “My father named me after an animal he enjoyed killing.”
During the third season of the web-based show, THE GUILD (2007-2014) a group of video gamers (The Guild, aka “The Knights of the Good”) go up against a tough-as-nails paraplegic woman named Venom, who is played by Teal Sherer.
